5.01

Just because my new website is online does not mean I have finished tinkering with the design of it. It is just 18 days old, including 45 pages and 80+ pictures but it has already revealed a few things that could be changed.

Firstly the archives navigation was running loose down the right hand side of the pages and with 20+ months to list I felt it would be better to change this into a drop-down button. This has helped to tidy the right hand side. Equally with all the different sections and sub-sections this was making things a bit messy so the sub-sections are now hidden under their relative sections which are newly expandable by clicking on “>”.

With the right hand side tidied up the main content section looked a little short so that has been extended to a new length. The base navigation was a bit cluttered with all the pointless stars and view statistics so I just removed them for a more minimalist appearance and reduced the numbers in each list.

Finally and the major change for today is the way the front page is displayed. It shows the most recent additions to my website but considering I’m not working much with my photos at the moment there are not quite as many pictures on show as I would like and any page without a picture was represented with a colour block which was spoiling things a bit. So the new front page just displays the additions which include photos and a lot more of them.

My website is just an experimental design so nothing about it is perfect but that is what I like about it. No doubt more changes will follow but that is all for now.
