Has Britain Got Talent? Episode 3
This week the auditions for Britain’s Got Talent were shockingly replaced with an upcoming episode from the next series of The X Factor which included a couple of ostentatious interludes.
In the first quarter of the show I was eagerly awaiting a spectacular performance from the Newcastle auditions but unfortunately there was no talent worth mentioning just a lot of obnoxious people. It was a disaster, even the failures weren’t entertaining in their defeat and that calibre of performance just continued throughout this week’s disappointing show.
It seemed like only singing acts were getting through to the next round but I really don’t think that singing is the talent that should win the show, isn’t that why shows like The X Factor exists – to specifically find an undiscovered talented singing performer?
There was Olivia Archbald and she sang alright.
Then there was a kind of baby boy band called Connected. Their performance seemed slightly “staged” with them getting a chance to do a second song which had noticeably more gusto than their first song and of course they sang alright and got through, but they’ll be scuppered if their voices break before the next round!
The show didn’t even finish with a bang this week in fact the final act failed to get through and that wasn’t exactly the uplifting finish you would hope to see from this show and the whole ordeal was much longer than it really needed to be. There seemed to be a bit of an underlying message to this particular audition suggested by Simon and that was about friendship being more important than impending stardom and that was the way they chose to end to the show.
I don’t have a favourite this week and this week’s show has just left me wondering; where are the Diversity’s or the Escala’s or the George Sampson’s of previous years? So far in the current series it is just a showcase of Britain’s Lacking Talent!
Even after three show’s worth of auditions I still think Tina and Chandi have got the best talent worthy of winning!
However, this week I did see an absolutely amazing talented lad but he didn’t feature in this episode of Britain’s Got Talent, he was on Russell Howard’s Good News. The guy is called John Farnworth and he was very skilled in keeping a football up in the air in endlessly fascinating and diverse ways and he managed to do it flawlessly despite Russell’s comical commentary. He is a World Champion at Football Freestyle and as I watched him action I thought “now that’s what I call talent!”
