Has Britain Got Talent? Episode 5
It’s the same question we ask ourselves week on week and we’re still fairly dubious to the answer. Has Britain Got Talent? No doubt the answer is yes but you would struggle to find evidence of it on Britain’s Got Talent. This week is the fifth show in this series and it was the least exciting one yet. In fact I genuinely believe that there is only one act who is really worth mentioning.
The show began with some X-Factor style auditions in Cardiff which lasted about 25 minutes before they found someone worthy of going through to the next round and unsurprisingly it was a young singer. He did well to win over the audience but I sometimes think that the judges should just buzz the singers and tell them to come back and audition for the X-Factor instead. Britain’s Got Talent should not be a singing competition, it is more about giving people who don’t sing to be given a chance to be recognised for their talents instead. Other singers came and failed, some had a slightly different and obscure twist on things but ultimately too much of this week’s show was taken up with untalented singers and some them were very peculiar indeed but this was quite entertaining.
There were a couple of dance acts that got through but I don’t think that they stand much chance against the other dance acts that are already through to the next round. However there was a dance duo called Twist & Pulse that did surprise me but only because the editing of their footage seemed to be building them up for an epic fail, so I was quite surprised when they did a good enough performance to get through to the next round. It was interesting to see them dance to the theme tune of Eastenders but they will have to do something really special to get any further in the competition.
The act that was undoubtedly my favourite this week just has to be Paul Burling. He was an impressionist and had the confidence to carry off the best performance of the evening. He started off with a humorous bumbling impression of comedian Harry Hill before bringing countless famous cartoon characters to life on stage, it was really enjoyable to see him transform flawlessly from one character to the next, each with a certain nostalgic quality that everyone in the audience could easily relate to. He managed to connect with so many people and to get the voice and actions right for each character without fault was a superb talent that not just anybody could have done and having watched all these shows there hasn’t been anyone quite like him. He definitely deserved to go through to the next round! In fact he is one of my favourites of the series so far.
