This evening I turned on my computer and saw something that at the time seemed so absurd. Someone on Facebook was suggesting in their status update that Michael Jackson wouldn’t make it through the night. Strange thing to comment and I just thought that I had somehow missed the joke here. Their next update said “R.I.P Michael Jackson”. What?! No don’t be silly, this can’t be true so I posed the question myself on Facebook “is it true that Michael Jackson has just died?…” and then I thought I would check out Twitter and to my surprise a couple of people I follow were suggesting the same. In the trends column it was full of Michael Jackson references and that he had “apparently” died. Clicking on any one of these brought up a whole load of “tweets” about him dying. It didn’t seem real. Within seconds the replies came in to my question but when I found coverage on TV they were saying that it hadn’t actually been confirmed yet but from what they were saying on the news it did sound like it wasn’t quite as absurd as I had first thought.
It was difficult to hear that this could be true, I didn’t want to believe that this could have happened to him. Although immortalised through his music the man is still after all only human but he was only 50 years old, too young to die with so much still to do considering he had massive plans for a sell-out world tour.
Maybe it hadn’t been confirmed as such and I wondered how difficult could that be? Someone in the hospital must know if he is dead or not! But none of the reports on TV sounded very positive for him which was sad.
A crowd of people were quickly gathering around the hospital that he had been taken to. In fact the news about this had spread around the world so quickly, I wondered about that initial moment somebody had this information and sufficient proof enough to spawn a global news sensation which I saw before my eyes develop so quickly. I was getting messages about by text message and all over the Internet. And yet it still didn’t seem like this couldn’t be true.
I saw Sky News had “confirmed” it first, but I didn’t believe them and it wasn’t until it was confirmed on BBC News 24 that I thought that this wasn’t a bad dream anymore, this was real! The way that this news had spread of his death I’m pretty sure that most of the world will know the story by the time I wake up in the morning.
I was fairly sceptical but now that it’s been confirmed I guess I should start believing that Michael Jackson has in fact died… But now I’m also hearing that Jeff Goldblum and Harrison Ford have also died? Although this could just be a hoax!… Hmmm… Strange idea for a hoax if you ask me but then why are people just making this stuff up… I just don’t know what to believe any more!!
It is shocking that he has died and a tragedy for the world today but he will live forever more through his music.
